Email received 13 Nov 2003 from James W. Carroll of Salado TX: "I stumbled across your excellent work on RootWeb.com. In the information on the children of Christopher and Sarah Coltharp Garst, you indicate that Nancy Virginia Garst moved to Arkansas about 1884 with Annabelle, with a question mark. You are indeed correct. I recently found an original church letter dated Sept. 20, 1884 from the Macedonia Baptist Church in Carroll County, GA, verifying the full fellowship of "Annabella" and N.V. Garst and dismissing them when and if they joined another church of the same faith. (H. B. Bartlett signed it. I also found in a family trunk the Oct. 25, 1884 minutes of the annual session of the Carrollton Baptist Association). Nancy Virginia married my great-grandfather, James B. Carroll, in Sevier County, AR, on October 12, 1885. They moved to Texas in 1886, and eventually settled in San Saba County, TX in 1897. They had five daughters and one son, who was my grandfather. Nancy Virginia died May 9, 1909, near Richland Springs, TX, when she bent over to lace up her shoes and apparently had a stroke. She was 55 years old, having been born on Dec. 12, 1853 at Villa Ricca, GA, according to the family Bible." |
