Note

Census evidence indicates she was Elizabeth LYONS, born ca. 1843, d/o Johnston Lyons and wife Elizabeth of Fulton Co. GA.

Married Philip Houseworth, her cousin, of Carroll Co. GA about 1861. Death place unknown, though her son John A's 1888 will suggests she had already died by its writing.

Fannie and Philip Housworth were apparently divorced (no record found) since he remarried in Carroll Co. GA before Fannie's marriage to James Marion Garst.

Children by Philip Houseworth:

  1. Mary Elizzie born 1 May 1862 (from family bible records); married Jefferson D. Wallace in Fulton Co. GA 25 Nov 1881. Note from Marvin Houseworth: "I went thru the complete record of the John J. Housworth Estate; he did die intestate and his oldest son, Robert Housworth was appointed administrator. The death date was June ?, 1882. There are many documents mentioning Mary E. Wallace (not Wallis) as an heir. Others mentioning M.E. Wallis as one of the grandchildren. Some receipts for "part payment" of her share signed Mary Elizzie Wallace; a yearly ledger by Robt. Housworth shows $330 paid out to Lizzie Wallace (and in the same year, he received $227.90 from J. D. Wallace)." Found in the James "Garth" household in Fulton GA 1800: Mary Garst, daughter, born 1862. I believe this to be Mary E., age 28, the wife of Jeff Wallace in Fulton Co. with whom Fannie Garst Jr. was living in 1900--labeled "sister-in-law." Mary E. Wallace is also named and granddaughter in the administration of John J. Houseworth's [father of Philip Houseworth, d. 1882] estate: Ca. 1884: cash received from the estate of John J. Housworth from Mary E. Wallace, "it having been paid her by Robert Houseworth Administrator of the Est. J.J. Houseworth.

  2. John J. Houseworth, born abt. 1866. Left will in Fulton Co. GA dated 29 Feb 1888 which designates his heirs as "my two half Brothers, James Elie Garst, and Charlie Johnson Garst, and to my half sister Fannie Garst, who at this time reside in the State of Nebraska, equally all my real and personal estate...." Will probated in Fulton Co. Nov, 1894. Also left money to buy a marker for his mother's grave, implying she had died by Feb 1888.

Found as "John Garst" in 1880 census in household of James Marion Garth [Garst] and wife Fannie E. and also as "John Garst" in household of Elizabeth Lyon, both in Fulton Co. GA..He is listed as her grandson, which would indicate her daughter, listed as Elizabeth Housworth in the 1870 Fulton census (with 2 year old John A. Housworth) was John A's mother.
