| Note | Obituary Philip Alfred Garst, Sr., 76, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Roanoke, died Sunday morning, May 21, 2006. Philip served in the United States Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant with four years service during Korea, was retired Branch Manager for Westinghouse Electric Supply Company with 40 years service and was a salesman for Commonwealth Lighting. He served as Youth Camp Director for Roanoke Elks Lodge #197 for 15 years. Philip was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed the outdoors and especially the beach where he, his wife, and their children spent the last few years of his semi-retirement together. Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Moore Garst; his caring children, Cheryl Hambrick and husband, Harry, Cindy Allen and husband, Bill, Cathy Fortune and husband, Bill, Al Garst, Jr., Chuck Garst and wife, Kim, all of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Matt Hambrick and wife, Jennifer, Scott Hambrick, Katie Hambrick, Hunter and Emily Allen, Stephanie and William Fortune, Sydney Garst, Philip Garst III, Nick Garst and Lena Garst; his great-grandchildren, Amber and Troy; his sister, Frances Frey, Anniston, Ala. A funeral service will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, Thursday, May 25, 2006, 12 noon, with the Rev. John Cochran officiating. Interment in Godwin Cemetery, Botetourt County.
